These illustrations were created as an entry for the Concurso das Sardinhas 2016 (Sardine Contest 2016), a contest made in Portugal every year to celebrate Lisbon's patron Saint.
Saint Anthony is the key personality of this great celebration and Lisbon’s main religious symbol. On the other hand, the sardine is a pivotal symbol as well as it enhances the traditional festivity’s pagan side. I tried to convey the combination between the religious and the pagan thus producing an irregular and unreal figure that represented the fusion between the two realms.
